Maine License Plates May Get Some Love

Maine license plates may soon be getting some love.

Pop art icon Robert Indiana announced earlier this week plans to allow his infamous LOVE graphic to be featured on a new specialty license plate being proposed to help promote the arts in the state of Maine.

The Maine Crafts association is currently petitioning for signatures in hopes that the state will make the decision to issue a plate supporting the Maine arts. The state mandates that at least 2,000 people make a deposit of $25 before proceeding with production.

If the plate is approved, it would be designed using the iconic LOVE art, which has become a internationally recognized symbol for peace. The slogan “The State of the Arts” would be printed across the bottom of the plate.
