Living in the Maine Woods Means Interacting With Nature
Living in the woods in Maine is a special feeling. I've lived in Orrington for 14 years, and I love being surrounded by nature.
We get deer grazing on our raspberry leaves this time of year, squirrels everywhere, and so many birds. Of course, there are also the skunks and porcupines that I hope to avoid every morning when I walk to my car.

Several Hunting Seasons are Underway in Maine
Firearms season for deer doesn't start until November, but youth deer hunt day is October 24th. And archery season for deer is open, as well as seasons for moose, birds, and others.
Find all the specific dates for different types of game on the website for the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.
What does all of this mean if you're not a hunter?
Maine Hunting Seasons Mean Blaze Orange is a Must When Near the Woods
It means the fashion color of the season is blaze orange. Wear it whenever you're going to be near the woods. Taking a woods walk? Put on a blaze orange vest. Walking along the road, next to the woods? Maybe don an orange hat.
It's not all about you, either. An orange vest or bandana for your pets will keep them safe too.
Good luck to all the hunters. Here's hoping it's a successful and safe season.
