Maine Man Arrested in Orrington Named as Deceased Jail Inmate
Penobscot County Officials have released the identity of an inmate at the jail who recently passed away.
The Deceased Has Been Identified As a Stonington Man
Randy Webber, 51, of Stonington was found unresponsive in his housing unit at the Penobscot County Jail on Wednesday morning, August 14, 2024. According to the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office, Mr. Webber never regained consciousness and was later pronounced deceased. His death occurred less than two days after he was admitted to the jail.
He Was One of Three People Arrested During an Orrington Traffic Stop
Webber was arrested on Sunday, August 11, 2024 during a traffic stop in Orrington, along with Staphne Webber of Ellsworth and Garrett Collins of Bucksport. All three were charged with unlawful trafficking of scheduled drugs, and Webber's charges were elevated to aggravated trafficking.
The charges stemmed from a search of the vehicle which resulted in the seizure of
- 286 ggw methamphetamine
- 4.5 20mg methylphenidate pills
- 7.9 ggw cocaine base (crack cocaine)
- .38 special handgun, loaded with 2 rounds (found on Webber's person)
His Cause of Death Has Not Been Released
While the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office has not revealed how Webber died, they said at the time of the death that it appeared to be a medical/health event and that there was no indication of foul play.
This death remains under investigation.
