The community of Bath is in mourning for a local family after a young boy died after playing sports at the YMCA.

Emergency CPR Was Given to the Maine Boy Immediately After He Collapsed

The Bath Area Family YMCA shared the sad incident on its Facebook page. A young boy was playing on the sports field at the Y when he collapsed. The YMCA staff immediately called 911 and began administering CPR until paramedics arrived and the boy was transported to a local hospital.

We were devastated to learn that, despite the best efforts of our staff and emergency responders, the young child passed away.

They say paramedics were quick to respond and did all they could. The boy's Dad was at the field when he collapsed.

Evan's Parents Say He Was Active and Healthy

News Center Maine spoke with the parents of Evan Briggs who they say died of cardiac arrest. Nathan and Stephanie Briggs described the almost-eight-year-old as always singing and dancing and added that he was very healthy.  They say he was born with holes in his heart but they were repaired. An autopsy is planned to determine what caused his cardiac arrest.

The Maine Community is Offering Condolences to the Boy's Family

Thoughts and prayers were sent by the YMCA staff to the boys' family and friends after this tragic event. We also offer our deepest condolences.
