Call us a little bias, but the beaches in Maine are the most gorgeous in the World, never mind just the East Coast.

Any beach is lovely, don't get me wrong, but with the rocky shore lines in Maine, it adds more recreation and interesting nooks and crannies if you can go rock climbing as well as making a sand castle.

The State of Maine has over 3,000 miles of coastline.  In comparison, New Hampshire only has about 18.  There are lots of beautiful beaches to choose from, but this one not only has interesting architecture, but also stunning sunsets, not far from Portland.

Old Orchard Beach is One of the Most Beautiful Beaches on the East Coast

OOB as it's lovingly referred to, has it all and for less than Portland or other seaside communities in Maine.

According to travel.usnews.com, Old Orchard Beach is one of the best beaches on the East Coast.  Located about 20 miles South of Portland, the 7 mile beach is pretty secluded the farther away from the famous pier you go.

If you are not familiar with Northeast ocean water, be aware, it's pretty cold year 'round.  MAYBE in August you might be able to go in and not freeze, but even then, it's pretty unlikely.

OOB is home to the Palace Playland, which is fun for your kids who are into arcade games.  You can also travel to Old Orchard via the Downeaster train that travels from Boston or Portland.

There are plenty of pretty reasonable hotels to stay in at OOB.  Much more fairly priced that North to Portland or South to Portsmouth, NH.
