Hollywood Vampires Continue Without Joe Perry: Exclusive Photos
A scary episode for Joe Perry sent the Hollywood Vampires scrambling last night, even as the guitarist was recovering at a nearby hospital. See exclusive photos above from the July 10 concert, held at the Ford Amphitheater on the Coney Island Boardwalk in Brooklyn.
Perry had apparently suffered cardiac arrest, though most fans were unaware of what had transpired as the Hollywood Vampires pieced together a setlist without one of their best-known members.
Thankfully, Perry appears to be okay. "He is stable right now, with family and is under the best care," according to the Aerosmith co-founder's latest Twitter update. Hollywood Vampires frontman Alice Cooper reiterated the same message, as well.
Perry's exit happened very early during the Vampires' show, leaving the group to improvise in his absence. Some songs were inevitably cut from the setlist, but the ones performed kept the energy up for the already enthusiastic fans. They stuck to sing-along rock 'n' roll anthems, including the Beatles’ ”Come Together,” Led Zeppelin's “Whole Lotta Love,” the Who’s “My Generation,” Motorhead’s “Ace of Spades” and, of course, the Cooper favorites “I’m Eighteen” and “School’s Out.”
The Hollywood Vampires tour was scheduled to continue through July, though Perry's status obviously remains unclear. Their all-star lineup also includes guitarist Johnny Depp, drummer Matt Sorum of Guns N’ Roses and Velvet Revolver fame and Robert DeLeo of Stone Temple Pilots, just to name a few.
All of them wished Perry a speedy recovery in a Facebook post following the concert.
