Teenage Girl Struck While Crossing Street in Presque Isle

A 16-year-old girl was taken to the hospital after she was hit by a truck at the end of the State Street Bridge in Presque Isle late Wednesday.

According to Sgt. Laurie Kelly of the Presque Isle Police Department, the girl was crossing State Street from Riverside Drive around 5:30 p.m. when she was struck by a 2002 GMC pickup that had just pulled out from behind the Mai Tai Restaurant. The police report indicated that the truck was traveling at under 20 miles per hour.

Road construction workers who were nearby rushed to help until the police and ambulance arrived. Other passersby offered assistance, including off duty emergency personnel and an Aroostook County Sheriff's Deputy.

Crown Ambulance transported the girl to The Aroostook Medical Center in Presque Isle, where she was treated for injuries, which included bruises and abrasions.

Sgt. Kelly said the glare from the late day sun was likely a factor in the accident.
