State Police are investigating a one vehicle crash this morning on the southern end of the Maine Turnpike that has killed one person.  

 

Troopers say the crash was in the northbound lane, at mile 18, near the Wells – Ogunquit town lineTwo lanes of traffic remained open. The crash took place around 6:30 AMState Police say one lane of the turnpike in Wells would likely be shut down for most of the morning as Troopers investigate the cause of the crash.  

The man killed was the passenger in the car and the driver, also a man,  was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland with non-life threatening injuries. Both are believed to be from outside Maine.   Initial indications are speed was a factor as the car struck the median guardrail and then crossed the northbound lanes and slammed into a group of trees off the breakdown lane.
