Police Investigating Fatal Presque Isle Crash
A two-vehicle collision in Presque Isle Sunday afternoon that claimed the life of a local man remains under investigation.
The Presque Isle Police Department responded to the crash on the Centerline Road shortly before 2:30 p.m. Police say 75-year-old Betty Brown of Easton was traveling south in a 2005 Jeep Liberty with her son, 56-year-old Justin Brown Jr. of Presque Isle, in the front passenger's seat.
Traveling behind Brown's vehicle was 46-year-old Jason Ireland of Presque Isle, who was driving a 2016 Subaru sedan.
The investigation revealed Betty Brown was slowing down in traffic but Ireland could not get stopped in time and struck the rear of Brown's SUV. Police say both vehicles rolled over on opposite sides of the roadway.
Justin Brown Jr, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the motor vehicle and sustained multiple injuries. Police say he was transported to the Aroostook Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Betty Brown was admitted to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Ireland sustained non-life threatening injuries and declined medical treatment. Both had been wearing seat belts.
Presque Isle Police say the investigation is ongoing and it appears speed and alcohol were contributing factors in the crash.
Also on scene Sunday were members of the Maine State Police,Maine Warden Service, Presque Isle Fire Department, Presque Isle Ambulance, Crown Ambulance and Presque Isle Highway Department.
