On the heels of releasing his latest solo album, Black Keys frontman Dan Auerbach's contribution to one of two soundtracks for the Disney/Pixar film Cars 3 is also out now. You can listen to "Run That Race" above.

“The song is about never giving up and always trying your best,” Auerbach said in a press release. “[The filmmakers] showed me the storyboards and ran through the plot. I was able to read some of the dialogue and from there I had enough to piece together a story in my mind for the song.”

"Run That Race" can be heard during the opening credits of the film, which is in theaters today.

This soundtrack, which was released today (June 16), also features songs from Brad Paisley and ZZ Ward with Gary Clark Jr., as well as covers of Tom Petty's "Kings Highway," Bruce Springsteen's "Glory Days," The Beatles' "Drive My Car" and Aretha Franklin's "Freeway of Love."

A second soundtrack features a 110-piece orchestra performing an original score composed and conducted by Randy Newman.

On June 2, Auerbach released his second solo effort, Waiting on a Song, on which he co-wrote many of the songs on the album with legend John Prine. Dire Straits' Mark Knopfler, members of the Memphis Boys, Duane Eddy and Prine all play on the record.

His first solo record was 2009's Keep It Hid. In 2014, he released Turn Blue with the Black Keys.

Auerbach will open for Prine on a handful of days this fall.
