Celebrate The 50th Of ‘Carrie’ With Movie In Mt. Hope Cemetery
To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Stephen King's novel "Carrie" the Bangor Historical Society is hosting a special viewing of Brian DePalma's 1975 film adaptation of the story in what seems to be a most fitting place: Mt. Hope Cemetery.
King first published the story in 1974, and it still holds true as a creepy classic, thanks to actress Sissy Spacek's artful portrayal of the protagonist on the big screen.
"SEATING IS NOT PROVIDED. The movie will be shown on the grassy left side of the main cemetery entrance. Concessions will be available for purchase. No pets, no smoking, no drugs, and no alcohol permitted."
According to their Facebook post, the Bangor Historical Society will be showing the movie on a plot of land within the cemetery that's not currently used for graves.
Gates for the showing will open at 6:30 PM and the movie will start right at 8 PM.
Those who plan to attend are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on. Parking will be limited at the cemetery, but folks are welcome to park up at the United Technologies Center on Hogan Rd. and take the shuttle up to the site.
"To ensure comfort and convenience, buses will be available to transport attendees to and from Mount Hope. Bus transport for the film will start at 6:30 PM. Buses will loop from UTC to the cemetery until just before the film’s start time. PARKING IS NOT AVAILABLE IN THE CEMETERY. Only handicapped parking is available onsite: please contact 207-942-1900 for more details. There will also be a designated drop off/pick up area outside the cemetery’s State Street gate."
Tickets are already on sale and going fast. They are $15 a piece. They are capping ticket sales at $500.
The last time the historical society held an outdoor movie at Mt. Hope, they sold out, so if you want to go, here's the link to get them.
