The cause of death has been released for the 28-year-old woman who died while hiking with her father on Mount Katahdin.

Daughter’s Cause of Death

Esther Keiderling died from blunt force injuries as a result of an accidental fall, said the Maine Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Father’s Cause of Death Pending

Her father, 58-year-old Tim Keiderling, also died on the mountain. Cause of death has not been released for him.

Search after Vehicle Still in Parking Lot

The two were last seen leaving the Abol Campground on Sunday morning, June 1. The search started after their vehicle was still in the parking lot Monday, June 2.

Bodies Recovered 1000 Feet Apart

Their bodies were found on Mt. Katahdin by search teams. The father’s body was located and recovered near the summit on Tuesday, June 3. Her body was found the next day near the Tablelands in a wooded area between two known trails. They were about 1000 feet apart from each other. Both are from Ulster Park, New York.

Multi-Agency Search

The search involved 25 Wardens, four K-9 teams and 21 Baxter State Park Rangers. A Maine National Guard Lokota helicopter with thermal imaging was used in the search.
