Truck Hit By Bus in Bangor, Maine Sends Canoe Into Windshield, Authorities Say
Bangor Police weren't quite sure how to classify an accident that happened in front of the Bangor Public Library on Harlow St. Tuesday morning.
According to their Instagram Post:
"So this morning, Officer George Spencer went to Harlow Street for a truck, bus, boat accident. We can't make this up...We called the Maine Marine Patrol and the Warden Service to ask questions. Both thought it was a prank and hung up on us.
In our computer system, this is classified as a property damage accident, meaning things were damaged, people were not. It's the most appropriate code we have as 'Shipwreck' is not currently an option."
All jokes aside, it all took place around 7:50 AM, according to Bangor Public Information Officer Jason McAmbley.
"The truck was stopped. The bus hit the truck that was carrying the boat."
Morgan Boo and RJ Nichols happened to be driving by shortly after the accident occurred and got this video of the scene.
The bus in question was a City of Bangor Community Connector Bus, with passengers on board. McAmbley says it struck a Black 2006 Chevy C15 truck that happened to be carrying a 2016 Red Old Town Canoe.
The force of the impact dislodged the boat and sent part of it through the windshield to the bus. McAmbley says the boat made it less than a foot into the bus, but it was enough to do some significant damage.
He estimates the total property damage to be over $1,000.
Thankfully, no one was injured during the accident.
