You may not know this, but Maine isn't exactly a large state.

I know, it's startling news. But that doesn't mean we don't know how to throw a great party or host some of the most iconic musicians of all time. This is especially true when it comes to rock.

Maine has a rich history of live rock shows. Portland, Bangor, Old Orchard Beach, the college towns, and even Oxford Plains Speedway have welcomed some of the biggest names in the industry. Some bands came before they made it big, while others arrived already enjoying massive success. Either way, it's been a win for Maine rock fans, from Kittery to Fort Kent.

Maine Has Hosted Some of the Most Legendary Rock Bands and Artists

Acts like the Beach Boys, Bob Dylan, Aerosmith, Elvis, the Grateful Dead, Lynyrd Skynyrd, AC/DC, Metallica, Heart, and many others have graced Maine stages in the past—and even recently. However, not all of the big names have made their way to the Pine Tree State.

Unlike larger states, Maine occasionally gets overlooked by major acts. Sometimes it's due to venue size, while other times bands seem to think Massachusetts is close enough to attract fans from up north. Whatever the reason, it's been unfortunate, to say the least.

This includes some of the biggest bands from rock ‘n’ roll’s greatest era, as well as numerous acts from across the pond who never saw fit to perform in our great state.

Is there still time for some? Sure. But it's hard to imagine the Rolling Stones suddenly deciding to swing by Maine for a show at this point in their career.
