A photographer captured an eagle and squirrel encounter atop a tree in Lincoln that played out like a game of whack-a-mole.

Roger Stevens Jr., owner of Maine Focus Photography, has captured some stunning videos of a variety of wildlife including owls, ducks, deer and crows, but this encounter between a bald eagle in his pursuit of his next meal is pretty amazing.

The encounter starts atop a tree behind Rite-Aid in downtown Lincoln with the squirrel and eagle coming face to face.

The eagle goes in for the kill but the squirrel quickly ducks into a hole in the tree to safety.

He emerges later on the other side of the trunk of the tree while the eagle seems to patiently wait for the right time to strike.

Now the squirrel is within reach and may have made a mistake to come back out of the tree.

The squirrel scurries to the other side of the tree to where he probably hopes he can't be seen, but have you ever heard the term "eagle eye?"

The eagle makes its move, spreading its wings but again, the squirrel ducks back into the hole.

In the end, the squirrel won, managing to escape to live another day. He probably should stay far away from this tree for a while.
