Duxbury Police said 25-year-old Lucas McPherson of Mapleton, Maine was apprehended after what appears to be two random shootings.

Police said the first victim, a 33-year-old Marshfield man, was traveling near the Duxbury Town Hall at 1:15 a.m. Sunday when a shot was fired from a passing vehicle. The bullet struck the man in the abdomen, and he was able to drive himself to the nearby fire station for help, according to Duxbury Police Chief Matthew Clancy.

As Duxbury and Kingston police were investigating the first shooting, they spotted a suspicious vehicle in the area, which sped away. An officer pursued the Chevy Impala with temporary Maine registration plates, and found it moments later, stopped in front of a home, police said.

As the officer approached the car, a resident ran up saying he had just shot by the driver of the vehicle.

Police said the suspect again tried to drive away, but was blocked by the Duxbury Police cruiser. As the officer attempted to arrest the driver, the man allegedly came at the officer with a hunting knife. The officer then subdued the suspect with an electronic control weapon (Taser).

The suspect was identified as Lucas McPherson, with a last known address in Mapleton, Maine. Police say they found a shotgun inside McPherson’s car.

Chief Clancy said the man who was wounded in the second incident was letting his dog out when McPherson pulled in front of the home and shot him.

Both shooting victims were taken to Plymouth Massachusetts Hospital with what were considered non-life threatening injuries.

McPherson is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Plymouth District Court.

Police say the shootings appear to be completely random.
