A Combination of Speed & Alcohol Are Likely Cause of Crash [PHOTOS]

State Police say three girls ages 15, 19 and 20-years-old were seriously injured Tusday morning when the car they were in slammed into trees and overturned on the Hanscom Road in Benton.

The combination of speed and alcohol are the likely cause of the crash, said police.

Being treated at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor are two passengers from Fairfield - 15-year-old, Brooklyn Vining, and 20-year-old, Jodie Nadeau. Both individuals have multiple injuries and were flown to the hospital by a Lifeflight helicopter. Vining is the most seriously injured.

The driver is 19-year-old Sadie MacDonald of Waterville who was being treated at Maine General in Waterville for multiple injuries, according to Maine Dept. of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland.

Trooper Rick Moody said MacDonald, who has a suspended driver’s license, lost control of the 1997 Lexus at a high rate of speed and the car became airborne, struck several trees and landed on its roof, pinning the three girls inside.

The crash took place about 10:30 Tuesday morning. Moody said he will await the results of blood alcohol tests and consult with the district attorney’s office before deciding what charges to lodge against MacDonald.
