6 Days in Maine. Busy? Ayuh!
Here we go again. First with apologies to Christmas, which is a month away, here comes a busy, busy time of the year.
6 different specific days in the next week.
All on the calendar around Thanksgiving.
Away we go in chronological order
If you have kids or brothers or sisters that live away, this is when they arrive home for the Thanksgiving holiday. And Thanksgiving Eve is so often the day they skip immediate family and get together with friends. So let the festivities begin, with the night before Thanksgiving.
Of course it's a great holiday for so many reasons. But let’s not forget the power of having the holiday on a Thursday that is part of a 4-day weekend. Amazing foresight.
So, unless you are trying to reduce the number of people you will see at Christmas, don’t talk politics. Don’t over imbibe. Just go with the busy flow and enjoy the food, the family and the fun.
Hopefully you don’t have to search too deeply within yourself to find something to be thankful for. This is the perfect time of the year to express gratitude and live in the moment among those in our lives that mean the most.
Next day has been known for years as Black Friday, but as time goes on and our habits change, it just isn’t the same. Now companies put things on sale the week before Thanksgiving to get your attention, and with so much information at our fingertips at all times, well, it’s just not the old days of camping out at stores before dawn to be first in line to get that item that we thought we couldn’t live without.
But if you must shop, plan ahead to help ease the stress and knock yourself out.
Did you know that the day after Thanksgiving in the plumbing trade is known as Brown Friday. I don’t think any explanation is needed as to why that color was chosen, but supposedly it is one of, if not the busiest day of the year for plumbers.
Yeah, it was those gathered around your Thanksgiving table who clogged the toilet, the kitchen sink and the garbage disposal.
Plumber walks out of the bathroom and says “I’m going to need a bigger plunger”. Not a good sign.
What Day Is It?
Okay next it will actually be Saturday, and it is Small Business Saturday. This nationwide day is to celebrate and support our small businesses that are owned and operated by your friends and neighbors. So Shop Local Saturday. Local stores need your business, and in most cases truly appreciate when they get it. That’s a good feeling for both. Win – win. If you are shopping, shop local on Saturday.
It’s also the day many towns light up the community Christmas tree, signaling the start of the season.
Monday is Cyber Monday. But again, over the years the so-called deals begin earlier and last longer. But if you are at work, a little cruising the internet on company time can’t be a bad thing, right?
Giving Tuesday. A day around the globe where the focus is to give back to our communities. A day to be charitable after all the focus on shopping on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Unfortunately, we don’t have to look far to find charities and community efforts that would really appreciate anything you can do to help out.
There you go. Find me 6 days within a week with more activity at any other time of the year.
