A 34-year-old wanted man was arrested Wednesday for stealing a firearm and criminal threatening after trying to flee on a rooftop of an apartment building in Lewiston.

Wanted Man Fled from Police to Rooftop

The U.S. Marshals Service’s Maine Violent Offender Task Force apprehended Matthew Gallagher from Lewiston on Main Street.

Arrest Warrant with Multiple Charges

A warrant for his arrest was issued for Theft of a Firearm, Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person, and Criminal Threatening with a Firearm and Violation of Probation.

When officers located Gallagher at the apartment building, he fled to the roof to avoid capture. He then jumped to the roof of another building next door.

Suspect Surrendered to Authorities

Law enforcement surrounded the building and ordered him to come down. Gallagher “surrendered to law enforcement and descended from the rooftop without incident,” said U.S. Marshals.
