It’s Mother’s Day weekend and as a red-blooded American male I decided I’d be the perfect one to ponder the question, ‘What does it mean to be a mother in 2013?’  Of course I’m coming at it from the outside looking in.  Some would say being a mother doesn’t mean the same thing it did in years past because of our changing times.  I agree and disagree.

Sure, times are different.  Often both parents are working hard to provide the necessities of life for their children.  There are single parents raising kids all on their own and that can be extremely isolating.  But the role of the mother hasn’t changed all that much.  They are a teacher, nurse, taxi, police officer and most of all, protector.   Below is a photo of my family.  You’ll have to use your imagination because I'm 'protecting' their anonymity.

My Dad wasn’t around during the most important years of my life so I owe a lot of thanks to my Mom for making sure we had everything we needed and even some things we wanted.  I also should say thank you to my Mother-in-law.  She allowed me to take her beautiful daughter away in order to create our own happiness.  Most of all, I want to recognize and thank my wife, who often feels like the worst mother in the world.

Believe it or not, you are the best kind of mother because you care.  While I’m away at work all day, you run your own company from home and still manage to raise four great kids.  They have their bad days but everyone else says they’re wonderful so I’m going with it.  How you do it and still stay as smoking hot as you are I’ll never know.  Happy Mother’s Day to all the Super Moms!
