River Ice information Sessions to be Held Throughout Aroostook County

River flooding can be a serious issue and could potentially affect thousands of people right here in Aroostook County. That's why Aroostook County Emergency Management & the National Weather Service will be holding River Ice information sessions throughout the County during the month of October. 

The presentation will be an all-encompassing discussion on river ice and ice jams.

The National Weather Service Hydrologist will cover the how’s, why’s, and where’s of river ice formation, ice break up, and ice jams.  In addition, they will discuss flood safety, NWS services, and where to find current river and snow conditions around the state.

The purpose of these sessions is to educate people on what to look for in the spring, warning signs of flooding, and indications of ice melt and movement.

This free session is open to the public.

Sessions will be held at the Fort Kent Town Office on Friday, October 17th from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., at the Fort Fairfield Town Office on Monday, October 20th from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., and in Island Falls on Tuesday, October 21st from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
