I mentioned in an earlier post that we bit the bullet and got Satellite television.  Up to this point it had been 4 channels and our imagination.  Again, the decision was made for economic reasons and because we wanted our kids to experience a bit more cultural variety via channels like Discovery, TLC or History.  Yeah, not so much.

I have 4 Mini-Me’s and the two youngest, 5 and 3, were the ones I had the most concern about their brain turning to mush.  Turns out I was right.  Case in point, the other night my family is gathered in the bedroom for the nightly ritual of prayer, wrestling, etc.  My 5 year old, for no reason, slaps his 13 year old sister.  The act itself was not surprising, they’re kids!  It’s what he said to me when I reprimanded him.  I said, ‘we don’t hit in this house.’  His reply was, ‘you want some of this?’

We try to limit what and how much they watch but when you have a teenager and a preteen in the house, they want to watch teen shows.  The two youngest usually end up tagging along and seeing and hearing things they probably shouldn’t yet.  That includes some of the annoying language coming out of teens mouths.  I was an annoying teenager, I know from whence I speak.  But when your 3 year old calls you a ‘butthead’ it screams for a solution.  Channel blocking.

Oh and by the way, I've got lots of channels now- there's nothing on.  Am I being too strict?  Tell me on Facebook.
