Maine State Police have arrested a man that they say has been living as a “Hermit” for nearly 30 years in the woods in central Maine, and who is believed to be responsible for over 1,000 burglaries as a means for his survival.

Earlier last week, authorities captured and arrested 47-year old Christopher Knight after he was caught red handed burglarizing a nearby camp by a Maine Warden Service agent. Interestingly, police say that the arresting officer was only the second person that Knight had come into contact with while living out in the woods for the past 27 years.

So far, police have charged him with one count of felony burglary and one count of theft; however, more charges could be added if the investigation determines that Knight was in fact responsible for other crimes.

Knight is currently being held at the Kenneback County Jail on a $5,000 cash bond, where he is currently awaiting his next court date.
