Governor Janet Mills signed a bill on Friday that will allow the sale of non prescription drugs in vending machines according to a story from the Associated Press.

This new law means the state pharmacy board will need to come up with some new regulations which will allow a drug store or pharmacy to apply for a license to have such a vending machine in their stores, the article reports.

Drugs like pain relievers, allergy medication and even emergency contraception will be available when the vending machines finally roll out in Maine, the article does not give a specific time frame as to when the move will take place.

The new bill was amended by Maine lawmakers to make sure these vending machines will not be allowed in schools or child care facilities.
