As people head back home after the Christmas holiday, motorists are seeing lower gas prices around New England.

Prices at the pumps in Maine, according to's latest survey, fell about a nickel a gallon to an average $2.33 a gallon. Prices at most stations in Presque Isle, as of early Wednesday afternoon, were $2.46 a gallon.

While neighboring New Hampshire saw a smaller drop in price to an average of $2.41 a gallon, Vermont's price at the pump fell the most, but it's average price remained the highest. Gas there fell more than five cents a gallon, but it's average price per gallon was $2.53.

According to a GusBuddy analyst, 31 states have at least one station selling gasoline for under $2 a gallon.
