Fredericton Fire Department Cautions Using Cup Holder Ashtray

The Fredericton Fire Department is warning smokers and non-smokers alike about the dangers of using cup holder ashtrays after recent resulting fires.

The specific ashtrays the Fredericton Fire Department is talking about are those that are made of a type of plastic and look like a cup, but with a hole in the top through which cigarette butts can be disposed of inside.

These ashtrays are sold as a type of fire resistance plastic, but if they are not properly emptied out and a constant water level maintained isn't in the bottom, they can catch fire.

The Fredericton Fire Department recommends a sturdy glass or ceramic type ashtray be used at all times.
