An area farmer based in Presque Isle has become just the sixth chair of the MEMIC Board of Directors.

Lance Smith, a partner in Smith’s Farm, the largest producer of broccoli and one of the largest growers of cauliflower in the East, succeeds David Labbe of the Kittery Trading Post, who was one of the founding board members of MEMIC. MEMIC is a regional workers’ compensation specialty insurer.

Whether it's out in the field or in the board room, Smith has earned a reputation for hard work, collaboration and common sense.

Smith has been a member of the MEMIC Board since 2012 and has served on the Executive Committee, Audit Committee, Governance & Nominating Committee and has chaired the Compensation Committee.

Smith's Farm harvests more than 8,000 acres of farmland from Maine clear down to Florida. Based in Presque Isle, the family business has been in operation since 1859.
