Canadian scientists have recently discovered a never before seen vegetarian dinosaur that was likely one of the quickest breeds during its time roaming Canada.

However, the new dinosaur, which has been given the name Albertadromeus syntarsus, is not quite the gargantuan that you might expect. In fact, scientists say that if it was standing next to a fully grown adult, the dinosaur would barely reach their knees and that it probably only weighed somewhere in the ballpark of 30 pounds.

Researchers say this dinosaur was a fast rascal, capable of dashing away from predators in a high-speed sprint made possible by two fused lower leg muscles. Incidentally,  this is where this beast gets its name, meaning “Alberta runner with fused foot.”

The discovery was made in the Belly River Group in Alberta and is said to date back to 77 million years ago. Scientists say this Albertadromeus is quite possibly the smallest omnivorous dinosaur to ever been found in Canada.

Scientists say that while North America was the stomping ground to such large dinosaurs, like the T. rex and Triceratops, the little Albertadromeus were extremely prevalent, but their bones were simply unable to fossilize like some of the larger counterparts.
