Driving yourself to serve a weekend sentence in jail may seem like the responsible thing to do. That is, unless you steal a car to do it.

Jordon Morin, who was originally sentenced to 60 days worth of weekends for an assault charge, will now be locked up for the next 10 months due to being caught by police driving a stolen vehicle while on his way to report for part of his intermittent sentence.

"I thought it was a good idea at the time," 25-year-old Morin told the judge. "I shouldn't have taken that. It was added stress on me. I made the wrong choice."

The car thief's legal council told Judge Sherwood that his client was “physically incapable” of getting himself to jail, but the judge was unsympathetic when it was made known that Morin had been driving around in the stolen car for about four days before being apprehended.

This was not the first time Morin had been in trouble with the law. The career criminal has quite an extensive record ranging from break-and-enter, possession of stolen property and breach of probation.

"It's clear from the record, you are not getting the message of deterrence," said Judge Sherwood.

Morin was sentenced for breach of probation and possession of stolen property. He was immediately taken into custody to prevent any miscommunication that according to the judge, could have him serving a life sentence on an installment plan.
