Wintergreen Arts Center is hosting the creative work of local artist Rowena McPherson which will be held on March 2, 2018, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, during the First Friday Downtown Art Walk.

Refreshments will be served and the event is free and open to the public.

McPherson said,

“My studio practice embodies the expression of the ‘inner necessity’ as defined by Wassily Kandinski, one of my greatest artistic influences. It is the innate need to create, to give form to the formless.  Intimately tied to the desire to create is the study of ‘process,’ the peeling back of layers of self-doubt and social expectations.”

Because McPherson’s focus is on process and expression, the end result is widely varied.  Her work ranges from large-scale, colorful, and textural abstract paintings; too tightly rendered graphite portraits, bordering on photorealism.

McPherson is a graphic designer, photographer, and artist originally from Castle Hill, Maine.

Though she is largely self-taught, McPherson received her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the University of Maine at Presque Isle, where she is currently the Coordinator of Graphic Design, Social Media, and Photography.

“We are excited to have Rowena back at Wintergreen,” said Dottie Hutchins, Wintergreen’s executive director.

“As a former executive director of the Center, Row made significant contributions to our mission of encouraging creativity in Aroostook County.  She has an amazing talent and a generous heart.”

McPherson lives in Perham, Maine, with her husband, Shawn, and is bonus Mom to two entertaining sons, Weldon and Jacoby; and a talented and artistically driven daughter, Arianna.
