After releasing a video for their first official single, "You're the Best Thing About Me," from the upcoming Songs of Experience yesterday, today U2 has offered up a stripped-down, acoustic version of the song. You can listen to the track below.

The acoustic foray not only follows the album version which was released on Sept. 6, but also their first release from the new record, "The Blackout." The song speaks overtly to a country in crisis. The band also debuted "The Little Things That Give You Away" live on tour.

Songs of Experience is the followup to 2014's Songs of InnocenceThough it was completed last year, the band decided to temporarily shelve it while first focusing on their 30th anniversary tour of Joshua Tree, and then reconsidering the ways the world had changed since the wrote the album, specifically following the election of President Donald Trump.

The Edge said the band “were pretty much complete with [Songs of Experience] after a couple of weeks of the final touches leading up to the end of the year. And then the election [happened] and suddenly the world changed. We just went, ‘Hold on a second – we’ve got to give ourselves a moment to think about this record and about how it relates to what’s going on in the world.’ That’s because it was written mostly, I mean, 80 percent of it was started before 2016, but most of it was written in the early part of 2016, and now, as I think you’d agree, the world is a different place.”

“[W]e definitely want to take this opportunity to think about it, make sure it’s really what we want to put out given the changes that have occurred in the world,” he added.

Although U2 has not officially announced details, it is believed that Songs of Experience will come out on Dec. 1.
