One Wednesday night, I stopped at a local convenience store to get lottery tickets and to fuel up.

I waved my RFID chip card in front of the pumps, entered my code, and reached down to tap the REGULAR button.  Just before I did, I glanced at the price.  I say glance because the price really does not matter.  Gas is something I need to keep my life going.  I did a double-take.  The per gallon price was 20 cents higher than it was when I filled up at the same convenience store three days earlier!

At first, I thought it was a mistake, so I checked out the other pumps.  Nope.  It was right!

According to WMTW, Maine really is seeing a spike in the price of gas because of the war in Ukraine.

AAA is reporting that the average price for a gallon of regular gas in Maine was $3.71 on Thursday (March 3rd). That's up a nickel from the day before and up an average of 16 cents from a week ago.

In Kennebec County and Somerset County, the average was $3.70 per gallon.  The average price for a gallon of gas in Penobscot County was $3.69.  The highest prices in the state were in Knox County, where the average price for a gallon of gas was $3.76 on Thursday.

It could be worse.  In California, where they have the highest gas prices in the country, the price for a gallon of gas averages $4.94!

Despite the spike, OPEC is sticking to their plan to slowly increase oil production over the next few weeks.  Their plan is to be producing 400,000 barrels per day by early April.

For many reasons, let's all hope and pray this war comes to an end as soon as possible.
