Litigation proceedings are intended to reveal the rest of a heavily redacted file on the group.

Ill-fated double-header ended on July 16, 1967, after only seven dates.

The record label balked, but original songwriter saw it differently.

"It brought me to my knees, moved me back three feet," Nesmith told MTV in 1986.

“You could never, never have talked him out of the tour,” says Monkees bandmate Micky Dolenz.

He emerged from their pre-fab beginnings to become a musical pioneer in his own right.

When the television show premiered in 1966, no one could have guessed the phenomenon it would become.

Result: A frustrated guitarist, a disappointed band and a bewildered and confused audience.

At this point, they'd been on a nonstop roller-coaster ride for a solid 15 months.
