Fort Fairfield swept Madawaska on the diamond, Presque Isle swept Houlton/GHCA on the tennis courts, and Caribou moved to 7-0 in both boys and girls tennis on Monday, May 12.

Aroostook County tennis players from Presque Isle, Caribou, Fort Kent, Houlton and Van Buren are set for MPA state singles and doubles play.

Voting is open for Spring Week Three Athlete of the Week, with seven County athletes nominated from softball, baseball, track and field, and lacrosse.

Presque Isle baseball and softball split with John Bapst, Katahdin swept Madawaska baseball, and Houlton softball picked up a win over MCI.

Houlton’s Amelia Matwyko is the Spring Week Two Athlete of the Week after two complete-game wins, 25 strikeouts, and a 5-for-6 week at the plate.

Tuesday’s County sports slate featured a Fort Fairfield no-hitter, a Houlton softball pitchers’ duel, Caribou tennis sweeps, and a close Moose lacrosse battle.

Most of Monday’s County sports schedule was moved, but tennis, lacrosse and softball teams still got in action on May 4.

Presque Isle swept the girls and boys team titles at the PVC Week Two Track Meet, with Caribou finishing second in both standings.

Caribou hosted the MPA Region 1 Singles Qualifier on Saturday, with five girls and five boys advancing after a strong day of County tennis.

Greater Houlton Track & Field collected a record 783 pounds of waste during its fourth annual Trash Olympics community cleanup event.
