A bill has been introduced in the U.S. Senate that would make malicious acts of animal cruelty a federal crime.

Under Maine law, persons other than a first responder, who breaks a car window to save an animal or child, can be charged with destruction of private property.

Last month the Presque Isle Police Department began receiving complaints about a possible animal abuse case.
