South Portland's Jon Gillies is expected to make his NHL debut tonight when he starts in goal for the Calgary Flames vs the LA Kings. Gillies has been called up from the AHL team in Stockton, California Flames head coach Glem Gulutzan says the Maine native will start either tonight or in the regular season finale Saturday vs San Jose.

The Flames have locked up a wildcard playoff spot in the Western Conference. The team wants to give top goalie Brian Elliot a break before the playoffs and backup goalie Chad Johnson is now out with an injury. Hence, the Gillies call-up.

Gillies helped lead Providence College to a NCAA championship and then turned pro after his junior year.

This is Gillies first full season of pro hockey. He spent last year recovering from hip surgery.

This year, he has a 17-14-1 record and 2.96 GAA in the AHL.
