It was frustrating day and night at Fenway Park on Friday, July 31st. The Red Sox stayed pat, not making a trade as the trade deadline passed at 4PM and then the Red Sox lost to the Tampa Bay Rays 8-5, as Rick Porcello allowed 6 runs.

Porcello allowed 6 runs for the 2nd time in his last 3 starts and 4th time in his last 6. He pitched 5.2 innings, allowing 9 hits (3 of them homers) while striking out 7. The Red Sox trailed 5-0 after 2 innings and Porcello smashed 2 TV monitors with his fists in the Red Sox dugout.

The Red Sox offense did their best to bail out Porcello, but couldn't quite pull it off.

JD Martinez was 3-4 with a home driving in 2 runs. He's tied for the team lead with Xander Bogaerts, with 23 homers.

Michael Chavis was 2-4 with a homer, a solo shot in the 7th inning. He leads the American League rookies with 56 RBIs, 83 hits and is tied with Eloy Jimenez with 17 homers.

Mookie Betts was 3-5 with a run and double. He leads Major League baseball with 99 runs scored.

Rafael Devers extended his hitting streak to 11 games, going 1-4, driving in 2 runs. He had 34 runs batted in during the month of July, the most since David Ortiz drove in 35 runs in 2006.

The Red Sox are now 10 games behind the 1st place New York Yankees and 2.5 games out of the wild card spot
