Red Sox Drop Final Game of the Series with Yankees 9-6 [VIDEO]

The Boston Red Sox won 3 out of 4 games in their 4 game series with the New York Yankees, dropping the series finale 9-6 on Sunday, July 28th.

Chris Sale had another sub-par start, lasting 5.1 innings, striking out 7 and walking 3. He allowed only 5 hits, but 2 of those were home runs, after he had walked a batter. He was responsible for 6 runs.The loss, his 10th of the season, is his most in a season since he last 10 games with the Chicago White Sox.

Andrew Benintendi was 3-5 with a homer and knocked in 4 RBIs. It was his 2nd straight game homering and he's batting .333 with 15 RBIs in his last 18 games, with 8 doubles, a triple and 3 homers.

Xander Bogaerts was 3-5 with a double and scored 2 runs. In 17 games since the All-Star Break, he's batting .417 with 18 runs, 7 doubles, 6 homers and 16 RBIs.

Rafael Devers had a double and leads the majors with 138 hits and ranks 2nd with 86 runs scored.

The loss dropped Boston back to 3rd place, 10 games behind the 1st place New York Yankees. They also are now 1 game out of the final wild card playoff spot.

The week ahead doesn't get any easier for Boston. The Red Sox are off on Monday, July 29th and then open a 3 game homestand with the Tampa Bay Rays who are in 2nd place (Tuesday-Thursday). The Red Sox then go to Yankee Stadium for a 4 game series, including a doubleheader on Saturday, August 3rd, (Friday-Sunday). Tuesday night's pregame starts at 6:10 with the 1st pitch at 7:10.
