The Boston Red Sox fell to the Minnesota Twins at Fenway Park, Tuesday, September 3rd, losing 6-5 in the 1st game of a 7 game homestand.

Rick Porcello, coming off 3 good starts wasn't sharp, allowing 6 runs in 4 innings, giving up 8 hits, walking 2 and striking out 5.

Trailing 6-0 in the bottom of the 5, the Red Sox scored 4 runs to make it a 6-4 game. They would add another run in the 8th, but that was it.

Rafael Devers hit his 29th homer in the 5th inning, a 3 runs shot, and Andrew Beninitendi hit his 13th homer in the 8th inning.

Benintendi ended up 2-4, adding a double to his homer. Jackie Bradley was 1-3 with a double.

The Red Sox managed only 6 hits in the losing effort.

The Red Sox's bullpen of Josh Taylor, Brian Johnson, Marcus Walden, Darwinzon Hernandez, Andrew Cashner didn't allow the Twins a hit in the final 5 innings, striking out 8 and walking 2.

The Red Sox are 5.5 games out of the final wild card spot, and the "tragic number" to elimination is 19.

The Red Sox and Twins will play the 2nd game of the 3 game series Wednesday night, with the pregame starting at 6:10 and 1st pitch at 7:10.
