The Boston Red Sox beat the Angels 4-3 on Sunday, September 1st, to pull within 5 games of the final wild card spot. The Red Sox went 6-2 on the West Coast trip.

In the 3rd inning Xander Bogaers hit a 2 run homer, his 31st of the season and then JD Martinez hit a solo shot, his 34th of the season, as the Red Sox went back to back.

Bogaerts went 3-4 and was just a triple short of the cycle, driving in 3 runs. Rafael Devers was 2-4.

On the mound David Price came off the Injured List, but only went 2 innings. He struck out 2, walked 1 and allowed 1 hit. Travis Lakins, went 2 innings allowing 5 hits and 2 runs. Ryan Weber picked up the win, going 2 innings, allowing just 1 hit. Hector Velazquez pitched a scoreless 7th, and Matt Barnes pitched the 8th allowing 1 run. Brandon Workman pitched the 9th for his 10th save of the season.

The Red Sox return home and are off on Monday, Labor Day. They will open a 7 game series with 3 games against the Minnesota Twins and 4 games against the New York Yankees.
