The Boston Red Sox avoided a 3 game sweep by the Houston Astros, as they defeated the Astros 4-1 on Sunday, May 26th as Eduardo Rodriguez out-dueled Justin Verlander.

Rodriguez threw 6.0 innings, allowing 4 hits, and 1 run. He struck out 5 and walked 1. Brian Workman, Matt Barnes and Marcus Walden pitched the 7th, 8th and 9th innings respectively, not allowing a hit.Rodriguez improved to 5-3 and Walden picked up his 1st save.

At the plate Rafael Devers hit his 7th homer. and was 2-4. Eduardo Nunez was 2-4 with a double.

The Red Sox are now 28-25, 6.5 games behind the New York Yankees who lost 8-7 to the Kansas City Royals in 10 innings.

The Red Sox will open a 3 game series at home against the Cleveland Indians on Monday, May 27th, Memorial Day against the Cleveland Indians.
