The last time we hit 100° in Maine was on July 22, 2011, as measured at the Portland Jetport. New England is predicted to beat that high temperature 14 years later.

You might be surprised to learn that 3 states in New England are in the top 10 states that have the least amount of air conditioners in their homes.

I've Always Had an Air Conditioner

I remember having air conditioners in our bedrooms as a kid in the 1970s. When things got hot, we never had trouble getting to sleep with the AC cranking. My parents had a heavy-duty AC that was loud but put out some serious cool air. The rest of the house was air-conditioner-free, but even in hot weather, we were outside playing, and it didn't bother us in the least. There were always ways to cool off.

Heat pumps are all the rage today. Not only will they cool your home in the summer, they'll also heat it in the winter. I see more and more people with these units attached to the side of their homes. Someday, we might have one for our house.

I was kind of shocked when I saw a Facebook post by Meteorologist Gunnar Consol of WCAX 5 in Burlington, Vermont. He shared a list of the top 10 states in the country with the least amount of air conditioners by percentage.

It's no surprise that Alaska is #1 at 7%. Vermont landed at number 5 with 67% of the state having air conditioners. Maine was right behind at number 6 with 70% of homes having AC, and bringing up the rear at #10 was New Hampshire with 78% of homes having AC.

Do you have air conditioning in your home? I sure hope so with temps like these.
