David Ortiz will have his number 34 retired by the Red Sox in this upcoming 2017 season in Boston and the date is now set, as announced by the team on Thursday.

The number will join other Red Sox icons in the right field stands on June 23rd before the game against the Los Angeles Angels.  Ortiz will join Bobby Doerr (1), Joe Cronin (4), Johnny Pesky (6), Carl Yastrzemski (8), Ted Williams (9), Jim Rice (14), Carlton Fisk (27), and Pedro Martinez (45) as retired Sox uniform numbers.

Ortiz retired after the 2016 season and holds the record for most Red Sox home runs at 541.  He finished his 20 years career with 14 seasons with the Sox, including a .286 batting average and 1768 runs batted in.
