Former UMaine Black Bear and now Detroit Red Wing Gustav Nyquist is facing a suspension for a vicious high stick to the face against Minnesota Wild player Jared Spurgeon during the first period last night.

Nyquist says the play was 'accidental' but the NHL Department of Player Safety wants to talk with him about the dangerous play.

The fact that the league want to talk to Nyquist in person means he could be facing a multi-game suspension.

Nyquist has a clean record on discipline so that may help him regarding the length of penalty.

He is 4th in points on the Red Wings with seven goals, 22 assists for 29 points.
