New Brunswick Elementary School Gets 4-Million Dollar Boost

The New Brunswick government is investing $4 million toward additional construction at a new elementary school in West Saint John.

Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Brian Kenny says the investment is being made as part of the 2017-18 capital budget.

Construction on the three-story building began in November 2015 next to the existing Havelock School. The new school, scheduled to open in September, will accommodate 470 students and replace St. Patrick’s, Havelock and Seawood schools.

Kenny says it will include a cafeteria, gym, music room, performing arts room, library and two multipurpose rooms, as well as 23 classrooms and other spaces.

This week's funding announcement raises the total investment in the school to nearly $20 million.

Kenny says about $88 million will be invested in New Brunswick’s schools in 2017-18.
