Moose & Three Cars Involved in I-95 Crash; Medway Woman Injured

A Medway woman was injured in a crash that involved a moose and three cars on Interstate 95 near Howland.

Police say the bull moose, which weighed at least 1,000 pounds, was struck when it ran out in front of a car Wednesday night.

The animal landed on the roof of the car, then fell back into the road. A Volkswagen Beetle then hit the moose, causing the car to go airborne and roll over several times. It ended up on its roof in the travel lane, completely shutting down the interstate.

The driver, 67-year-old Alice Russell of Medway was able to climb out of the passenger-side window. The driver of a third car tried to avoid the crash scene and went off the highway.

Russell was taken to a Bangor hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Police say her seat belt likely saved her life.
