Mookie Betts hit the 1st pitch he saw Wednesday night, September 4th, for a home run and then a 3 run homer in the 2nd inning, driving in 5 runs on the night as the Boston Red Sox beat the Minnesota Twins 6-2 at Fenway Park.

Betts ended the night 4-5, matching a season high for hits and RBI's. He leads the majors with 125 runs. Mookie now has 25 homers and means the Red Sox have 4 players with 25 or more homers ( Betts, Bogaerts, Devers and Martinez) this season.

Eduardo Rodriguez was brilliant on the mound, throwing 7 scoreless innings. He allowed only 5 hits, striking out 8 and walking 4. He now is tied with Justin Verlander and Domingo German for the most wins (17) in the majors.

Christian Vazquez and Brock Holt were each 2-4, with Vazquez hitting his 24th double of the season.

The Red Sox are still 5.5 games out of the 2nd wild card spot, trailing both Oakland and Cleveland. They are 6 games behind Tampa Bay. Their tragic number for elimination is 18 games.

The Red Sox will play the Twins in the final game of the 3 game series Thursday night. Nathan Eovaldi is set to take the mound for Boston with the pregame starting at 6:10 and 1st pitch at 7:10.
