A 21-year-old man from Millinocket is charged with setting fire to a Millinocket church last June.

The Adam Turner set three separate fires inside the Church of the Nazarene at the 134 forest Ave in Millinocket on June 20, said Maine Public Safety Spokesman, Stephen McCausland. The damage was $60,000.

DNA evidence led to his arrest after it was processed at the State Police DNA Lab in Augusta.

Turner was taken into custody Thursday after the Penobscot County grand jury indicted him on burglary and arson charges, McCausland said.

Turner is being held in lieu of $20,000 bail at the Penobscot County Jail after Millinocket Police arrested him Thursday.

There is no clear motive to the fire and Turner had no affiliation with the church, said McCausland.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office worked with Millinocket Police & Fire Departments on the charges.
