Well, it was bound to happen eventually. Even though no one ever expected to pay for Microsoft Windows, the company has announced in a new blog that it will indeed start charging Windows 7 customers a monthly fee beginning January 14th of 2020 if they want to keep their computers safe.

January 14th happens to be the same date Microsoft will end ‘Extended Support’ for Windows 7 according to the company’s Lifecycle page. That means no more patches or security updates unless you pay. And to add insult to injury, Microsoft says it will increase the cost of this every year.
