There are approximately 82 Robin Hood movies (OK, more like five) in development at various studios right now, including the gritty Robin Hood: Origins starring Taron Egerton and Jamie Foxx. Should all those projects make their way to the big screen, we’re going to be experiencing a bit of Robin Hood fatigue, to say the least — that’s where Margot Robbie comes in.

Deadline reports that Robbie is set to play the title role in Marian, which sees the classic hero’s love interest take the lead in her very own action epic. Sony has acquired the spec for the project, which the trade describes as “Braveheart meets Game of Thrones.” In the story, written by newcomer Pete Barry, Marian witnesses the death of her beloved Robin Hood, who is killed during a conspiracy to conquer England. With no one to lead the people during this critical time, Marian picks up a sword and heads into war, fighting a battle that will determine the future of her country and make her as legendary a hero as Robin Hood himself.

The report’s description of the plot also mentions that Marian will “don the mantle of the man she loved,” presumably fighting under the Robin Hood name. It’s definitely a different approach to the classic folklore, and one that sounds way more interesting than all the other Robin Hood movies in development — mostly, I just like the idea of watching Margot Robbie in a medieval war epic, waving a sword around and charging castles in slow-mo.

In addition to starring, Robbie will produce Marian through her LuckyChap Entertainment banner, which is also backing I, Tonya — the upcoming biopic in which Robbie plays disgraced former figure skating champ Tonya Harding — and the upcoming Harley Quinn spinoff Gotham City Sirens.
